Covers and Deadlines

So, the deadline for cover submissions was a couple of days ago and I realize I’ve been a bit MIA for a while but I’m back and ready to get things running again!

We’ve had one submission for a cover which I’m going to put up on the website as soon as I’ve posted this so you guys can all see it and decide whether or not you think it’s a suitable cover.

The deadline for story submissions is tomorrow and so far we only have 4 stories submitted. I know that life can get busy and some of you may have forgotten about this project entirely by now but there’s still plenty of time to write something and email it to us. I know that I’ll be spending the rest of my time today finishing off my own story which is still sitting on just 308 words.

I’m going to update the website with all the new information that I have, putting up submitted author bios and the like and then I’ll be emailing my contact at Random Acts a couple of the stories that we’ve already had submitted so they can see some of the awesome work that will be going into the book.

I just want to give all of you still writing a gentle nudge for tomorrow and I hope that I get flooded with submissions soon, won’t be much of a book with just 4 stories. Having said that, if anyone who has submitted a story would like to write another one, I won’t stop you!

This post is getting a little long so I’ll just finish by saying thanks to all of you for your hard work in making this project come together and hopefully we can count on you to help promote the book to the best of your abilities once it’s complete.

Thanks guys!

We’ve had our first submission!

I’m pleased to announce that we’ve already had a submission! Hopefully it’ll be the first of many now. Don’t panic if you haven’t quite finished your story yet (I know I haven’t), there are still 10 days before the deadline.

Go look at it :D

RandomActs Is Behind Us!

I sent in an email to the director of RandomActs near the beginning of this project and received a very lovely reply giving us full backing for the project and wishing us all the best.

I had also asked if we could get someone to write a foreward for the book. I had asked if Misha Collins could do it, knowing it unlikely but thought I’d give it a go anyway, and they countered by suggesting someone who went on the Haiti trip last year. I thought that was a great idea!

So, I just got an email from the treasurer of RandomActs, who went on the trip last year, and we’ve now got two folks writing a foreward for us. They asked to see a couple of submissions to get a feel for the content of the book so I’m looking to you early bird submitters!

If your story is completed, or near completion then please send it in to writeforhaiti@hotmail.com and I’ll send it on to the people who will be writing our foreward for us.

Also! For everyone participating, I’d love it if we could have a small author bio for everyone to put up on the website (which I have still not set up yet but I will get around to it, I just keep spending money on other things and then have none left to buy the domain name I want.) Try and keep the bio’s to at most, 200 words.

For the bio, please submit your name/pen name, age and location as well. Also, if you participated in Write For Japan, tell us so we can include that next to your profile. The website I’m going to set up will be called WriteForProjects.com and I’m going to have a page for every writing project we do from the past, present and future.

I just want to take this moment to thank you guys for all your hard work in writing a story and, when the time comes, promoting the story. This would not be happening without you guys and I am incredibly grateful to each and every one of you.

Who has started their story?

I’m curious to see how many people have already started their stories. I started mine this morning and already have 300 words down.

115 Oak Avenue was a perpetual Halloween haunted house. In appearance anyway.

There’s my opening. I’m going with a slightly creepy story that ends well.

What are you writing?

Just dropping in…

I promised Ayesha that I’d let her run the Tumblr side of things but I thought I’d just drop in and explain a little about the project and my motivation behind it.

Last year when the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan I set about trying to get a group of writers together to create a book of short stories based on the themes of devastation and hope. We manage to gather 34 writers of all ages from all places and put together Write For Japan in 18 days. We promoted it as best we could and managed to sell about 55 copies of the book, making just over £100 (once GiftAided) for The Red Cross and their relief efforts.

So, this year when I noticed that Random Acts is going back to Haiti I thought, why not do the same thing again?

Thus, Write For Haiti was started. I’m pleased to say that we have 21 writers signed up so far, many of them having helped out with Write For Japan before.

Random Acts does great work in Haiti, leading a team of volunteers along with actor Misha Collins, they’re helping people rebuild their lives after the earthquake last year.

Please, take a moment to follow this blog, support this project and help to make a difference in people’s lives.

Story Submission Requirements

Hello, it’s Ayesha again! :D

All of you fantastic people writing short stories for Write for Haiti deserve a huge hug!

We are planning on having every story submitted in the book, unless we get too many submissions or something then we’d either have another book or cut some stories out.

We would ask that all of the short stories have a theme of kindness, however you interpret that.

They be kept to between 1,000 and 5,000 words.

We’ve set a deadline for MARCH 25th 2012 for all the stories to be in.

Please email all stories to writeforhaiti@hotmail.com

If you miss the deadline I’m afraid that we will not be able to wait for you.

We want to have the editing and formatting complete between March 26-31, and having it ready to be sold as soon as possible after that.

When emailing your short story in, please fill out this form and send the story as an attachment.
